HOUSTON - For the second straight week, University of Houston senior outfielder Matt Weston was named a Conference USA Hitter of the Week after helping lead the Cougars to a 3-1 record.
Weston, who became the first player in UH history to win C-USA Hitter of the Week honors in consecutive weeks, continued his recent tear, batting .550 (11-for-20) with three doubles, three home runs 12 RBIs and 11 runs scored.
The Chino Hills, Calif., native became only the fourth player in school history to hit for the cycle when he accomplished that rare feat at McNeese State on April 11. He continued his hot hitting with a pair of three-hit games at No. 22 and C-USA rival Southern Miss and fell just a triple short of hitting for the cycle in the middle game of that series.
He currently ranks second on the team with seven home runs and 28 RBIs.
Weston shared the award with Rice's Adam Zornes. Tulane's Sean Morgan was honored as the C-USA Pitcher of the Week.
Weston and his Cougar teammates return to action at 7 p.m., Tuesday, at Olsen Field when they face Texas A&M for the second time this season. The Aggies escaped with a 3-2 win on March 21 at Cougar Field.
