HOUSTON - Fresh off its fourth consecutive Conference USA series win, the University of Houston baseball team found itself among the nation's best Monday when it was ranked No. 19 in the latest Collegiate Baseball magazine national poll.
In addition, the Cougars moved into No. 27 in the latest National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association poll and received 27 points -- the 29th-highest total -- in the USA Today/ESPN Coaches Top 25 poll. UH also improved its ranking in the latest poll from The Rosenblatt Report, moving up five places to No. 20 on Monday.
It was the first time since June 2, 2003, that the Cougars were ranked in one of the four national polls during the regular season.
The Cougars (24-15, 9-3 C-USA) have won 11 of their last 13 games, thanks in large part to a potent offensive attack that has pounded out 117 hits, including 20 home runs, during the last eight games to raise the team batting average 22 points to its current .293 mark.
The Cougars return to action at 7 p.m., Tuesday when they travel to College Station, Texas, to face Texas A&M at Olsen Field. UH will be looking for revenge after the Aggies claimed a 3-2 win on March 21 at Cougar Field.
