Hey Coog Fans,
Well, it was another exciting weekend at Cougar Field. I know that we played Tulane about a week ago, but I just wanted to say a few brief things about it.
We took two out of three from the Green Wave, which is not always an easy thing to do. On Friday, Brad Lincoln had yet another stellar performance, striking out nine batters in eight innings. We also had a few homeruns hit during the Friday night game with two guys going deep twice - Matt Weston and Josh Stirneman. Lincoln also hit a bomb along with Luis Flores.
Saturday's game didn't go our way, but Sunday, however, did. We got out to an early lead in the first inning with Lincoln driving in the first run of the game and Weston coming up big with a two-out double that drove in two. Later in the game, Weston went deep again, making that his fourth jack of the week with his first being on Tuesday against McNeese State
Matt Weston received a great honor by being awarded C-USA and National Hitter of the Week! He kept up his hot streak this past Tuesday at McNeese State by hitting for the cycle, making him the second guy this year to do so. It's pretty amazing to see it once during a season, but twice is nearly unheard of - especially not 2 1/2 weeks apart. Congrats to Matt Weston, and we all hope he keeps it up.
This weekend, we travel to Southern Miss and are looking to do some damage. I think that if we can keep hitting the way we are and keep getting quality starts from our starting pitchers, then we shouldn't have a problem taking two out of three, which is our goal every weekend. So keep the team in your prayers for safe travel and victory.
Happy Easter, Brett
