HOUSTON - For the third time this season, University of Houston junior righthander Brad Lincoln was honored Monday as the Conference USA Pitcher of the Week.
The Clute, Texas, native earned the league's weekly honor after leading UH to a dominating 7-0 win over new C-USA rival Marshall in the first game of a three-game series on Friday at Cougar Field.
Lincoln scattered three hits with eight strikeouts on the way to his first shutout of the 2006 season. It was his eighth consecutive start with at least seven strikeouts.
He faced only two batters over the minimum for the entire game and faced the minimum over the final six innings to collect his team-leading fifth win of the year.
With his third weekly honor in 2006, Lincoln moved into some elite company in UH history. Righthander Kyle Crowell holds the UH single-season record with four Pitcher of the Week honors in 2000. Righthander Brad Sullivan won the accolade three times in 2002, while southpaw Shane Nance received it three times in 1998.
Lincoln shared the award with Southern Miss pitcher Cliff Russum. Memphis' Adam Amar was recognized as the C-USA Hitter of the Week.
Lincoln and his Cougar teammates return to action at 7 p.m., Tuesday, as they wrap up their season-long, nine-game homestand against Prairie View A&M.
