Hey Coog Fans,
WOW! What a win! Talk about winning in dramatic fashion. I know it wasn't very pretty, but hey, it got the job done. In the locker room after the game Coach Noble brought up the point that we hadn't won the first game of a season in a while, and I think I am the only one still around (as far as players go) to have seen that happen.
The last time we won a season opener was against Baylor at Minute Maid Park on a walk-off home run by Chris Snyder. The next day we played the University of Texas and I think we got beat by a few runs, but that was then and this is now.
I think we can beat those guys, but we are going need everyone's support in the stands on Friday night, so come on out to the Juice Box. I know that every time we play Texas at that place they always have a lot of fans in the stands. There's always a big crowd, and it's fun to play in front of.
Back to Tuesday's Game - man, that game was something else. Back and forth for the last few innings and then BOOM! Brad Lincoln came up huge with that walk-off shot. That guy he hit it off was named Blake Brannon with whom I went to high school. Throughout the entire 10th inning our hitters were taking until they got a strike, but when UTSA made their last pitching change, Coach Noble said "Swing away."
I think that the UTSA coach thought we would be taking at least the first pitch, so I'm sure he told my old high school buddy to get ahead by just laying one in there. Good thing Lincoln is a first-pitch swinger.
Lincoln wasn't the only guy who came up big in the clutch. Jake Stewart had big-two-out RBI-base hit in the 10th, and Isa Garcia had a great at bat by fighting off tough pitches and ended up with a base hit that kept us going and brought Lincoln up to the dish.
Another guy that really kept us in the fight was Brian Tully. How clutch was his game-tying, two-run home run in the ninth? That's the kind of stuff you dream about as a little kid: full count, two outs, bottom of the ninth, game on the line. That kid got it done.
Hope to see a bunch of you out at Minute Maid Park this weekend at the College Classic. For those of you that don't know we play Texas on Friday at 7 p.m.; Saturday, we've got TCU at 3:30 p.m., and Texas Tech on Sunday at 11 a.m.. See ya'll there.
Thanks, Brett
