2006 Houston Cougars Football Postgame Notes

TEAM NOTES
** With Saturday's win and Tulsa's loss to Rice, the Cougars clinched at least a share of the C-USA West Division championship and a berth in the C-USA Championship game on Dec. 1. The Cougars can win the West Division outright and the right to host the C-USA Championship game with a win at Memphis on Nov. 18.
** With Saturday's win, the Cougars improved to 6-1 in Conference USA play... That is the most C-USA wins by the Cougars since UH joined the league in time for the 1996 season and the most conference wins since the 1990 team finished 7-1 in the Southwest Conference.
** With Saturday's win, the Cougars improved to 8-3 overall in 2006 and are bowl eligible... If the Cougars are selected for a bowl at the end of the regular season, they will compete in a bowl game for the third time in the last four years... It will mark the first time that UH has appeared in three bowls in four years since the 1978-81 Cougar teams competed in four straight bowl games (1978 Cotton; 1979 Cotton; 1980 Garden State and 1981 Sun).
** With Saturday's win, the Cougars recorded their eighth victory in 2006... It marks the most wins for the Cougars since the 1990 team posted a 10-1 record.
** Houston improved to 12-9-1 (.568) in the all-time series against SMU.
** Houston improved to 118-96-4 (.550) in the all-time series in the month of November.
** Houston improved to 104-99-8 (.512) all-time against NCAA Division I-A teams from the state of Texas.
** Houston improved to 79-65-1 (.548) all-time against current Conference USA teams.
** Houston improved to 6-3 (.667) all-time when playing on Nov. 11.
** With 504 yards of total offense, the Cougars topped the 400-yard milestone for the 32nd time and the 500-yard milestone for the 14th time under head coach Art Briles.
** The Cougars have allowed only 36 combined points in the second half during their seven wins.
INDIVIDUAL NOTES ** With his 61-yard rushing touchdown at the 4:05 mark of the fourth quarter, senior running back Jackie Battle recorded his 12th rushing touchdown of the 2006 season... That tied with Robert Newhouse (1971), Leonard Parker (1973) and Ketric Sanford (1999) who rushed for 12 touchdowns during their respective seasons for the third most in UH single-season history... Up next in the UH records book is Paul Gipson, who rushed for 13 touchdowns in 1968.
** With 225 rushing yards, junior utility back Anthony Alridge recorded the fourth 100-yard rushing game of his career and his third straight of the 2006 season... Alridge became the first back since Anthony Evans (at Army, 140 yards, Nov. 15, 2003; at Louisville, 146 yards, Nov. 22, 2003; vs. UAB, 165 yards, Nov. 29, 2003) to rush for 100+-yards in three straight games... The Cougars are 3-0 (1.000) when Alridge rushes in triple digits.
** With 225 rushing yards, junior utility back Anthony Alridge became the first player since Anthony Evans (282 yards) against Army on Sept. 18, 2004, to rush for at least 200 yards... The Cougars improved to 1-0 (1.000) during games in which Alridge rushes for at least 200 yards.
** With two 77-yard touchdown runs, junior utility back Anthony Alridge became the first player since Jackie Battle (at Tulsa, Oct. 1, 2005; at Tulane, Oct. 8, 2005; vs. Memphis, Oct. 15, 2005; at Mississippi State, Oct. 22, 2005) to rush for at least one touchdown in four consecutive games.
** Junior utility back Anthony Alridge's 225 rushing yards set a personal, single-game high, topping his previous best of 155 rushing yards against Conference USA rival Tulane on Sept. 9, 2006.
** With his 61-yard touchdown down late in the fourth quarter, senior running back Jackie Battle set a personal best in that category, topping his previous long of 28 yards against Army on Sept. 18, 2004.
** With 136 rushing yards, senior running back Jackie Battle recorded the third 100-yard rushing game of his career and his second of the 2006 season... The Cougars improved to 2-1 (.667) during games in which Battle rushes for at least 100 yards.
** Senior running back Jackie Battle (136 rushing yards) and junior utility back Anthony Alridge (225 rushing yards) became the first backs since Mike Green (162 yards) and Ketric Sanford (107 yards) at Army on Nov. 20, 1999, to rush for at least 100 yards in the same game.
** Senior quarterback Kevin Kolb made the 47th consecutive start of his career... With that total, he added to his UH record total for the most consecutive starts by a quarterback in UH history... His streak ties Thomas Gafford, who played in 47 straight games from 2001 to 2004... Kade Lane (2002-05) played in 48 consecutive games during his career for the UH record.
** With 47 career starts, senior quarterback Kevin Kolb moved into a tie for sixth place in NCAA Division I-A history with Fresno State's Mark Barsotti who started 47 straight games from 1988-91... Up next in the NCAA records book is Ohio State's Art Schlichter, who started 48 games from 1978-81.
** With 270 all-purpose yards (225 rush, 33 rec., 12 kickoff return), junior utility back Anthony Alridge became the first player since Anthony Evans (292 rush, 12 rec.) at Army on Sept. 18, 2004, to account for more than 250 all-purpose yards in a game.
** With his catch in the second quarter, senior wide receiver Vincent Marshall caught a pass in his 47th consecutive game... He added to his UH record, topping the previous best of 43 straight games by wide receiver Orlando Iglesias (1997-01).
** With five receptions, senior wide receiver Vincent Marshall moved into 24th place in NCAA Division I-A history with 247 career catches... Up next in the NCAA records book is Nevada's Nate Burleson, who caught 248 passes from 2000 to 2002.
** Senior running back Roshawn Pope competed in the 48th game of his collegiate career to tie the UH record, held by Larry Shepherd (1981-85) and Kade Lane (2002-05).
