HOUSTON - Head coach Kyla Holas announced the hiring of Adam Roorbach as assistant softball coach Friday afternoon. Roorbach will join the program effective immediately.
"Adam is a great addition to our staff," head coach Kyla Holas said. "He's young, hard working, committed, and breathe of fresh air to our program. His strength is offense and he'll bring us more power and round us out."
Roorbach comes to Houston from Western Carolina where he served as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for the Catamounts. In the program's inaugural season, he helped guide Western Carolina to a 41-20 finish and a Southern Conference Championship a season ago.
As hitting coach, Roorbach oversaw an offense that led the Southern Conference in batting average (.283), home runs (81), runs scored (322) slugging (.476) and on-base (.381) percentage. Roorbach's offense also was No. 3 in the nation in home runs per game, while ranking No. 14 in slugging percentage and No. 19 in runs scored per game.
Roorbach moved to the Division I level as an assistant coach at Nicholls State from 2004-05 after serving as head coach at Bethel College in Mishawaka, Ind. from 2002-04.
He compiled a 102-56 record at Bethel and won three consecutive Mid-Central Conference Championships en route to qualifying for three NAIA Regional Tournaments. He coached 14 All-Mid-Central Conference selections, and all three of his teams were named Top 10 Academic squads by the NFCA.
Roorbach began his coaching career in Cuthbert, Ga. at Andrew College after graduating with a Master of Science in Physical Education from Eastern Illinois in July 2000. He led the program at Andrew College to a 13-win improvement in his first season.
