Houston - The University of Houston football team was forced to finish their preparations for the UCF game inside the Bill Yeoman Field House due to rain showers throughout much of the day Thursday afternoon.
"Mentally, we were able to get done everything we needed," Houston head coach Art Briles said. "Physically, we were forced inside due to the weather.
The Cougars enter Saturday afternoon's game with a 5-3 record, and are 3-1 in Conference USA play after defeating UTEP, 34-17, last week at Robertson Stadium. UCF enters the game with a 2-5 overall mark and a 1-2 C-USA record after losing, 40-29, against Rice last Saturday.
The game can be heard live on 790 AM the Sports Animal. The pre-game show begins one hour before kickoff. Tom Franklin will handle the play-by-play duties, while former record-setting UH quarterback David Klingler will provide color analysis. Former All-Southwest Conference center Chuck Brown serves as the sideline reporter. All Cougar Football games can be heard live on the Internet by logging onto www.UHCougars.com.
Saturday's game also will be televised live on CSTV (DirecTV Ch. 610 and Dish Network Ch. 152) with Tom Hart calling the play-by-play action and Trev Alberts as the color analyst.
"We are just happy that it is going to be beautiful Saturday. We need to have a full house because it is such a huge game for us. The student support has been outstanding the past few weeks. We just need everyone to give the energy so we can win this football game."
The Cougars will play their first afternoon game of the 2006 season with Saturday's 2:30 p.m. kickoff.
"I am very excited about it because we get to get up, have our meetings and come over here a play," Briles said. "It also gives you a few extra hours to prepare for the next week. When we play a night game, we are up here at the facility until 1:00 a.m., and then you have to be up here at 1:00 Sunday afternoon. You don't have much time to be through one game and get on to the next one."
"With an afternoon game, we will be out of here at 6:00 p.m. and that gives the players and coaches a little more of a break before they have to start preparing for the next game."
