Softball Sweeps Blinn College in Fall Doubleheader

HOUSTON - The University of Houston softball team stormed past Blinn College 2-0 and 15-1 in a doubleheader Saturday afternoon at the Cougar Softball Stadium.
The Cougars opened the twinbill with a 2-0 victory behind strong pitching from Candi Kloecker, Samantha Cummings and Carla Kennimer.
Kloecker pitched the first four innings, allowing just one hit to go along with six strikeouts. Cummings logged an inning of work with a strikeout, while Kennimer picked up the save, punching out two in two innings.
Christa Raley and Lara Lang headlined the Houston offense with a pair of 2-for-3 performances. Lang added an RBI double, while Kloecker also picked up a RBI.
Houston exploded for a 15-1 win in the second game. Elaina Nordstrom and Amanda Grote each went 4-for-5. Nordstrom hit a double and home run, tallying four RBIs. Brent Moody also hit a three-run homer. Laura Durham and Angel Shamblin smacked three hits and two RBIs apiece.
Shamblin dominated the first three innings in the circle, being touched up for only one hit in three innings. She recorded six of her nine outs via the strikeout. Barbie Love closed game two with three strong innings, striking out four and surrendering a walk.
The Cougars conclude the fall season at the Spring Klein College Classic this weekend. Houston faces off against three Top-20 programs from a season ago in Texas, Baylor and Louisiana-Lafayette.
