Soccer Continues Homestand

HOUSTON - The University of Houston soccer team returns to John O'Quinn Field at Robertson Stadium this weekend for a pair of games against in-state rivals.
The Cougars will take on Sam Houston State on Friday at 7 p.m. before wrapping up the weekend on Sunday at 5 p.m. against the Lumberjacks from Stephen F. Austin.
The Cougars (1-2) come into Friday's game after a disappointing 3-1 loss to TCU. Houston actually out-shot the Frogs 15-9, but couldn't get on the scoreboard after scoring the first goal of the match in the 13th minute.
Midfielder Sophia Mundy headlines the Cougars offensively this season driving home two goals on seven shots on to go along with one assist. Defensively, keeper Stephanie Pucek has played consistently giving up only four goals while totaling 11 saves in three starts.
Friday's contest is the first road game of the 2005 campaign for Sam Houston State (0-3). After a close 3-2 loss in overtime to start out the season against Texas Tech, the Bearkats have failed to score a goal in its previous two games, losing to Centenary and UTEP.
Stephen F. Austin (3-1) will play its sixth consecutive game away from Nacogdoches this Sunday at 5 p.m. when they take on the Cougars. After losing their season opener to #14 Texas A&M, the Lumberjacks rebounded to win 3 consecutive games against Baylor, Arkansas-Little Rock, and Arkansas State.
