HOUSTON - The University of Houston football worked out in shorts, shoulder pads and helmets for a little over two hours on Wednesday afternoon at the UH Athletics Complex.
The Cougar Defense concluded practice working on third down situations. The drill was filled with battled balls, sacks and an interception.
"I want to get a determined, mean attitude," head coach Art Briles said. "I'm ready for food to taste good, the air to smell good and music to sound good. We're fighting to get our first win of '05, and this win counts just as much as a win against Oregon would have to be bowl eligible."
Houston is looking to reverse a 38-24 decision against Oregon last Thursday at Reliant Stadium. Briles talked about preparing for his on-campus opener at Robertson Stadium against regional rival Sam Houston State.
"We're glad to be at our stadium," Briles said. "The fans did a great job for us the other night at Reliant, and we feel that we let them down. We didn't take care of our business like we should have, but we're going to this Saturday."
Kick-off is slated for 6 p.m. The game can be heard live on ESPN 790 AM with Tom Franklin handling play-by-play duties and Tony Fitzpatrick providing color analysis. Former Cougar Chuck Brown will serve as the roving sideline reporter.
