HOUSTON - The University of Houston soccer team fell to the TCU Horned Frogs, 3-1 on Tuesday afternoon at John O'Quinn Field at Robertson Stadium.
This is the first loss for the Cougars (1-2) at home, while TCU (2-2) picked up their first road win of the 2005 campaign.
Houston dominated the game in many aspects, including out-shooting the Horned Frogs, 15-9.
Head coach Bill Solberg thinks the outcome will be different in the future if Houston can learn how to finish.
"I'm sick to my stomach because I know we outplayed them I know we dominated," said Solberg. "We had more shots, in the long run we just need to finish. We have to capitalize on the opportunities that we do have."
Things looked promising for the Cougars as Kristin Bay scored the first goal of the game off a Sophia Mundy corner kick at the 13 minute mark.
"It's very promising the way that we are playing, and how we're dominating," Solberg said. "The intensity that we played with today, I think we're going to be in contention for every game."
The Cougars proceeded to hold on to the lead until the 33rd minute when TCU midfielder Ginny Hubbard's shot went over Houston goalie Stephanie Puckek's head to even the game.
Minutes before halftime, the Horned Frogs scored the go-ahead goal as K.D. Walters punched a shot in from 25 yards away putting TCU up 2-1 at halftime.
In the 67th minute, TCU tacked on another goad. Moran Lavi found Lauren Pope, who shot the ball just over Pucek's head for the final margin of 3-1.
Houston had a chance to cut into the defifit in the 74th minute when Mundy spun around defender sending a cross into the box but Sarah Fisher could only get a slight deflection that went right into the TCU keepers mits.
Up next for the Cougars is another in-state battle in Sam Houston State. Coach Solberg believes his team must step up this weekend.
"Sam Houston has a tough program. They come out and really work hard," said Solberg. "They will try and out work us, so we'll have to step up to that challenge this weekend."
Friday's game is the third in a string of six straight home games for the Cougars. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Robertson Stadium.
