HOUSTON - The University of Houston softball team announced on Thursday afternoon the schedule for the SKGSL College Classic on October 13-15.
The Cougars open the tournament with Texas Tech on Saturday morning at 11am followed by games with North Texas and Oklahoma at 3pm and 5pm, respectively. UH begins day two against New Mexico State at 11am, and concludes Blinn College at 3pm on Sunday afternoon.
Oklahoma finished ranked No.14 before getting knocked out in the Super Regionals by Arizona, while Texas Tech and New Mexico State were only two games under .500 last season.
Blinn College was 40-15-1 a season ago, and has tallied 40 or more wins for the fourth consecutive year. The Bucs finished the season No. 13 in the final NJCAA poll.
"I'm really excited about this schedule," head coach Kyla Holas said. "The only thing that concerns me is the last game being against a junior college. I'm a little worried about a young team not being strong enough to stay focused so we as coaches have to make sure that doesn't happen."
Holas believes there is a lot of going with the flow as well as tough decisions during the Fall season. She and assistant coaches Beth McClendon and Nicole Dickson will have to deal with the debate of playing your best kids, or getting some younger players more experience.
"Sometimes the fall is not an accurate picture of what the spring is going to be like," Holas said. "It's nice to play those types of teams to face that caliber of talent out there."
The Cougars start the Fall season hosting the UH Tournament on October 8-9.
