HOUSTON - The University of Houston softball team embarks on year six under head coach Kyla Holas with the start of fall practice Monday afternoon at the Cougar Softball Stadium.
"After three weeks of individual drills, the team is itching to get out on the field," Holas said. "There is a lot of excitement with half of the team consisting of new faces."
Houston must replace its top five hitters from a season ago, including Conference USA Co-MVP Kristin Glowacz as well as first team performer Kim Nesloney. Those five hitters accounted for 56 percent of the squad's hits along with 62 percent of the RBI.
The Cougars return a lot of experience in the pitching circle as the entire staff comes back, headlined by Angel Shamblin and Carla Kennimer. The duo picked up 11 wins apiece, while Shamblin threw four of the staff's seven complete game shutouts.
"Getting our pitchers acclimated and working on our offense will be focal points of these upcoming weeks," Holas said.
Houston's first action of the fall season comes on October 8-9 when the Cougars host the UH Fall Tournament.
