HOUSTON - The University of Houston football team continued its final preparations with an energetic workout on Monday evening.
Monday's workout was in helmets and shoulder pads as the Cougars opened practice working on all aspects of special teams before breaking into position groups.
"Our guys are focused, and ready to go," head coach Art Briles said. "We need to understand that we still have three more days until the game, and that we certainly don't want to peak too early. We're ready to get out on the field, and get after it."
Briles continued to tinker with the game plan during the Monday workout, but is confident that his experience squad is primed for Thursday's opener.
"We're still adding and deleting some things (to the game plan)," Briles said. "Our team is a pretty mature. We have a general idea heading in of what we want to do, but we'll alter that as the game goes along."
The Cougars have only one more practice before the 2005 campaign gets underway against Oregon on Thursday evening at Reliant Stadium. The face-off against the Ducks will be broadcast live nationally on ESPN2 with Sean McDonough calling the play-by-play action and Mike Gottfried as the color analyst. Dave Ryan will serve as the sideline reporter.
The game can also be heard live on ESPN 790 AM with Tom Franklin handling play-by-play duties and Tony Fitzpatrick providing color analysis. Fans are able to hear the radio broadcast on the Internet by logging onto www.UHCougars.com.
