HOUSTON, Texas - With the heat and humidity soaring under a blazing sun, the University of Houston football team continued its preparations for its 2005 season with a robust two-hour-plus workout this afternoon on the UH Practice Fields.
Now that summer school is officially over for the Cougar squad, the coaching staff moved the afternoon practice to a 2:30 pm start. In full pads Houston worked out vigorously, as the offense, defense and special teams all toiled under the hot Houston sun.
UH head coach Art Briles likes the progress he sees.
"It is always an interesting time of year because we've been playing against ourselves since after the Louisville game (November 20, 2004)," said Briles. "The thing that inspires me about this group of guys is their work ethic and their attitude. We've got a bunch of guys that are hungry (and) ready to prove themselves and are very focused with a mission in mind.
"From that standpoint I keep looking around to find things that might not be right, and I cannot find any right now. Everything is good. If you're a Cougar, put your shirt on, put your cap on and throw a smile on your face."
Houston will hold its first day of two-a-days tomorrow, as the Cougars are slated to practice once at 9 am and again at 4:45 pm.
