Kolee Latson Places Sixth At USA Junior Championships

Carson, Calif. - University of Houston sprinters Kolee Latson had a sixth-place finish in the 400-meter dash at he USA Junior National Championships and All-Americans Carey LaCour and Preston Perry advanced to Sunday's semifinal races in the men's 200-meter dash at the USA Championships in Carson, Calif. on Saturday.
Latson finished in sixth place with his second-fastest 400-meter race of the season with a time of 47.48 seconds. His best time was 47.09 seconds when he finished in third place at the Conference USA Championships.
LaCour and Perry both ran in the first heat of four heats in the preliminary round with LaCour finishing in fourth place with a time of 20.84 seconds, while Perry had a fifth-place finish with a time of 20.97 seconds. Leo Bookman, the 2003 NCAA Champion, won the heat with a time of 20.63 seconds as he finished ahead of 2004 and 2005 NCAA champ Wallace Spearmon, who was the runner-up in 20.67 seconds, and Joshua Johnson was third with a time of 20.76 seconds.
In addition, senior Jasmine Jackson closed out her collegiate career with a 13th-place finish in the women's long jump with a leap of 6.13 meters (20' 1 ½"). Jackson had qualified for the USA Championships with a career best mark of 6.59 meters at the Rice All-Comers Meet on June 17.
