HOUSTON - Former Cougar outfielder Kim Nesloney, who finished up her career with Houston this past season, became the first Cougar to take her game to the next level by signing with the Houston based Texas Thunder of the National Pro Fastpitch League.
Nesloney, a four-year starter for the Cougars, received First-Team All-Conference USA honors as a senior this season, was a former 2002 All-Freshman Team member, a part of the 2003 C-USA All-Tournament Team, and now the first Cougar to go pro.
"We (the UH coaching staff) think it's fantastic that she was picked up by the Thunder," said University of Houston softball head coach Kyla Holas. "It couldn't have happened to a better player to represent our school and our program."
Throughout her career, Nesloney has been able to step up her game and excel at the next level, her play in the pros is expected to be no different.
"She was always the best example of hard work and leadership on our team," said Holas. "Kim is the leader type, the type that doesn't quit, the type that leads by example, the type that every player should be. She is going to be a great addition to the Thunder."
The former Cougar centerfielder joins a Texas Thunder that won the inaugural NPF regular season championship last year with a 41-17 record, while seven players were named to the NPF West All-Star Team and the coaching staff picked up the NPF Coaching Staff of the Year award.
Play for the Thunder begins June 2nd and runs through August 28. This season the Thunder is making Big League Dreams in League City, Texas. The team will be playing on the replica field of Wrigley Field.
