TAMPA, Fla. - Houston's run in the Conference USA Tournament came to an end on Saturday afternoon against top-seeded Louisville in an 11-0 game that placed the Cardinals in the championship game with DePaul.
The Cougars' season ends with a 30-28 mark for the 2005 season, and a 2-2 mark in this season's annual tourney where Houston began by falling 2-1 to USF, then downed Southern Miss 5-1 and USF 4-3, before falling to the Cardinals in the semifinal round.
All-time in the C-USA Championships, the Cougars now hold a 6-7 mark after making the tournament in four of the program's five years of NCAA competition.
For Houston, the Cougars used all four of their hurlers in hopes of finding the arm that would stop the Cardinal bats.
Louisville struck first in the third inning to go ahead 3-0. Cougars retired the first two batters in the inning before Louisville's Courtney Moore reached base on a Cougar error, then Lacy Wood was hit by a pitch, setting up Michelle Vasquez for a three-run homer for the Cardinals.
In the fifth inning, Louisville add to its lead with a two-run inning that pushed the Cardinal lead to 5-0 and added a solo home run in the sixth, before breaking out with a five-run seventh inning to ice the game at 11-0.
