FORT WORTH, Texas - The University of Houston tennis team earned a fourth-place finish in the Conference USA Women's Tennis Tournament after a tough 4-3 loss to the No. 51 USF Bulls in the consolation bracket.
The No. 74 Cougars finish the season with one of the best winning percentages in the program's 28-year history. At 17-10 overall, the Cougars earned a .630 winning percentage, the 9th highest ever.
Houston's season win total of 17 also surpasses last season's mark of 15 wins, and is the most in a single season since the Cougars went 19-6 back in 1997.
Against the Bulls, the Cougars clinched the doubles point with a pair of wins at the No. 2 and 3 spots. The tandem of junior Yolandi Terblanche and freshman Tiffany McLoughlin won the No. 2 spot by a score of 8-6, while senior Diana Martin and junior Kami Miller won the No. 3 position by default.
In singles action McLoughlin won at the No. 6 spot with a default victory, and Miller extended her winning streak to 14 straight victories with a 6-2, 6-3 win at the No. 5 position.
However, the Cougars fell in the No. 1-4 spots, which was enough to give the Bulls the 4-3 victory in the match.
