FORT WORTH, Texas - For the second time in as many years, the University of Houston tennis team earned a spot in the semifinals of the Conference USA Women's Tennis Tournament, and this year bowed out after a 4-0 to second-seeded TCU.
The No. 74 Cougars (17-9, 2-2) had hoped to upend the No. 17 TCU Frogs as they are the only conference team to have beaten Houston this season.
The match began with TCU claiming the doubles point after taking 2-of-3 matches from Houston in duplicate 8-3 fashion at the No. 2 and 3 spots, allowing the No. 1 pairings to finish with no decision.
In singles, the Frogs used wins at the No.2, 3 and 6 spots to secure the victory and advance the team to the C-USA Finals where they will face No. 1-seeded Tulane.
Houston moves to the consolation bracket to battle the No. 51 Bulls of USF, the third-seeded team in the C-USA Tournament. In the tournament, the Bulls have defeated Saint Louis and Louisville, before losing to Tulane on Saturday.
The Cougars and USF square off on Sunday morning at 9 a.m. with Live Stats being made available for the match that will determine third and fourth place in the C-USA Final Standings.
