HOUSTON - For the second consecutive season the No. 70 Houston tennis team has recorded a 15-win season after knocking off Sam Houston State and Lamar in a pair of home matches on Sunday afternoon at the John E. Hoff Tennis Courts.
First year head coach John Severance has guided the Cougars to a 15-8 record in the 2005 campaign, where all eight losses have come at the hands of ITA ranked teams.
The Cougars began the day with a 4-1 win over Sam Houston State and followed it up with a 5-1 victory over Lamar, extending the team's winning streak to three consecutive matches heading into the conference tournament next weekend.
On the day, the trio of junior Kami Miller and freshmen Tiffany McLoughlin and Sacha Gumbs secured two singles victories each in the two matches, helping the Cougars secure the doubleheader sweep.
Miller also picked up a doubles victory with teammate senior Diana Martin, as did McLoughlin and junior Yolandi Terblanche along with senior Biljana Dimovska and freshman Brianna Bateup.
Houston now awaits its seed in the C-USA Tournament being held next week on the TCU campus in Fort Worth, Texas.
