HOUSTON - The University of Houston tennis team sets out on the road for a pair of matches against in-state foes UTA and TCU this Friday and Saturday April 1 and 2.
Houston is coming off a pair of wins in late March over UCF and Lee College that brings the team's 2005 record to 10-6 with six matches left to play.
Friday's matchup will pit the Cougars against the Mavericks of UTA (9-4) in Arlington. The contest will mark just the fourth meeting between the two schools with the Mavericks owning an all-time record of 2-1 after last season's 5-2 loss at home to UTA.
On Saturday, Houston will visit No. 20 TCU in the Cougars' fifth match against a ranked team this season.
The Cougars have dropped their last six meeting to the Frogs (14-2), who hold a commanding 24-7 all-time record against the Cougars. The last time Houston defeated TCU was in Fort Worth in 1997 when the Cougars came away with a 7-2 victory.
Senior Biljana Dimovska will have a busy weekend at the No. 1 spot, where she will have to face Pavla Mesterova of UTA who is ranked No. 90, and Story Tweedie-Yates of TCU who carries a No. 25 national ranking.
Adding to the TCU lineup is No. 56 Helena Besovic and the doubles tandem of Tweedie-Yates and Ana Cetnik who are currently ranked No. 35 by ITA Tennis.
Houston begins play against the Mavericks at 2 p.m. on Friday and TCU at noon on Saturday.
