HOUSTON - The Houston tennis team drubbed Lee College Wednesday by a score of 6-1 at the John E. Hoff tennis courts on the main campus of the University of Houston.
With the win, Houston's record improved to 11-6 on the year.
The Cougars started things off right on the day by sweeping the doubles pairings.
The duo of Diana Martin and Yolandi Terblanche held the No. 1 doubles position and dominated an easy match, 8-4. Senior Biljana Dimovska and freshman newcomer Tiffany McLoughlin paired up and came away with an 8-4 victory in the No. 2 position. In the last match of doubles play, Brianna Bateup teamed up with right-hander Kami Miller and the pair claimed a win of 8-2
The success would carry over into the singles pairings for the Cougars, who closed things out by winning five of the six matches.
Four of the five wins for Houston in singles pairings came in only two sets.
The only loss on the day was at the No. 6 spot, as junior right-hander Sarah Reimer fell in two sets, 6-1, 6-4.
Next up for Houston is a trip north to the Dallas/Fort Worth area for two matches in as many days. On Friday, the Cougars face off against Texas-Arlington in Arlington, Texas, at noon, and on Saturday, UH will take on No. 20 TCU, in Fort Worth, starting at 2 p.m.
