HOUSTON - The University of Houston football continued to focus for the upcoming Fort Worth Bowl in 14 days with a strong workout under crisp conditions for about 90 minutes at the UH Athletics Complex on Friday afternoon.
"It feels good to get back," head coach Art Briles said. "Our guys are still excited and have a lot of bounce in their step. It's a good atmosphere. This team really enjoys each other, and we're really proud of them right now."
It was the first time in about two weeks that the Cougars were able to practice on consecutive days.
"What we're trying to do is make sure we're back right mentally as we bring ourselves along physically," Briles said. "We also want to make sure that we understand our schemes in all three phases of the game. We have plenty of time to get there, but each day is critical."
Houston (6-5, 4-4 C-USA) will be making its second bowl appearance in the last three seasons and are the only Conference USA school taking on a BCS conference opponent in the postseason.
"It's a big opportunity for us to make a statement for the University of Houston and Conference USA," Briles said. "This is our third opponent from a BCS conference school. There is a little more flare associated with playing a Big 12 school."
The Fort Worth Bowl can be seen live on ESPN. Gary Thorne will have the call with Ed Cunningham, while Dr. Jerry Punch will patrol the sidelines. The game can also be heard live on ESPN 790 AM with "The Voice of the Cougars", Tom Franklin calling the play-by-play action. Tony Fitzpatrick will provide color analysis and Chuck Brown will serve as the sideline reporter. The radio broadcast can also be heard on UHCougars.com
