Gilbert Picks Up Another Honor

HOUSTON, Texas - University of Houston senior running back Ryan Gilbert today was selected by College Football News to its All-Conference USA squad. Gilbert was the only Cougar representative.
Last month, Gilbert was named to the Conference USA First-Team after his stellar season for the Cougars. Beginning the year as a backup in a deep and talented backfield, Gilbert stepped in for an injured Anthony Evans and rushed for a team-high 1,030 yards and nine touchdowns, numbers that trailed only Memphis' DeAngelo Williams in league rushing. Gilbert became the fourth UH running back to grab first-team honors in Conference USA, joining Antowain Smith (1996), Ketric Sanford (1999) and Joffrey Reynolds (2002).
CFN also ranked the league's positions and posted a Top 30 team, regardless of position. Junior Kevin Kolb was rated as the third-best quarterback, while junior Vincent Marshall ranked fourth among wide receivers. Another junior, Wade Koehl, was ranked fourth among linebackers, and Gilbert was slotted second among conference running backs.
In the Top 30, Gilbert drew #8, Koehl was #25, Kolb grabbed #27 and Marshall was named #29.
The Cougars return to action on December 23, facing off against Kansas in the 3rd annual Fort Worth Bowl. Kickoff is slated for 7 pm on ESPN.
