ORLANDO, Fla. - 2005 Houston Cougars Football Postgame Notes
Houston Cougars (4-4, 2-3 C-USA) at UCF Golden Knights (6-3, 5-1 C-USA)
Saturday, November 5, 2005 * Florida Citrus Bowl * Orlando, Fla.
** Saturday's game was the first-ever meeting between Houston and UCF on the gridiron.
** With Saturday's loss, the Cougars fell to 113-95-4 (.542) all-time in games played during the month of November.
** The three points scored by Houston in the first half was the Cougars' lowest point total in a first half since being shut out in the first half at UAB on Nov. 13, 2004.
** With a field goal on their first possession, the Cougars scored on their initial possession in a game for the fifth time (three touchdowns, two field goals) during the 2005 season... It also was the fourth time in the last five games (at Mississippi State is the exception) that the Cougars scored on their opening possession.
** Senior linebacker Lance Everson made his first appearance of the 2005 season after sitting out the first seven games with a knee injury suffered in the spring
** With 42 plays, junior quarterback Kevin Kolb moved past Chuck Clements (1,284 plays, 1993-96) into third place in UH career history with 1,314 total plays... Up next in the UH records book is David Klingler, who competed in 1,432 plays from 1988-91.
** With 313 passing yards, junior quarterback Kevin Kolb recorded the 10th 300-yard passing game of his career and his fourth 300-yard game of the 2005 season... His 10 300-yard passing games are tied with Andre Ware (1987-89) for second most in UH career history... Kolb's four 300-yard passing games during the 2005 season alone tie with David Klingler (1991), Jason McKinley (2000) and Kolb's own total from the 2003 season for the fourth most in UH single-season history.
** With his catch around the 8-minute mark of the first quarter, junior wide receiver Vincent Marshall caught a reception in his 32nd consecutive game dating back to the season opener on Aug. 30, 2003, against Rice at Robertson Stadium.
** Wide receiver Donnie Avery's 76-yard touchdown reception at the 6:12 mark of the fourth quarter was the longest catch of his career... It topped his previous long of 70 yards against Oregon on Sept. 1, 2005.
** With 111 receiving yards, wide receiver Donnie Avery recorded the second 100-yard game of his career and the 2005 season... His total topped his previous high of 100 yards set against Oregon on Sept. 1, 2005.
** With two receptions, wide receiver Jeron Harvey tied his single-game high set against Tulane (Oct. 8, 2005) and vs. Memphis (Oct. 15, 2005).
** Kicker T.J. Lawrence's 50-yard field goal at the 6:45 mark of the first quarter was the longest of his career and tied with Randy Owens (vs. Oklahoma State, Nov. 24, 1951) as the seventh-longest field goal in school history... His effort topped his previous of 43 yards set against Oregon (Sept. 1, 2005) and Sam Houston State (Sept. 10, 2005).
** Consecutive Starts Streaks: Senior defensive end Kade Lane made his 44th consecutive start, dating back to Aug. 31, 2002, against Rice at Rice Stadium... Quarterback Kevin Kolb made his 32nd consecutive start dating back to season opener on Aug. 30, 2003, against Rice at Robertson Stadium.
