HOUSTON - 2005 Houston Cougars Football Postgame Notes

** With Saturday's win, the Cougars became bowl eligible in 2005... If the Cougars are chosen for a bowl this season, it will be the first time since 1980-81 that the Cougars appeared in two bowl games during a three-year span... The Cougars last competed at the 2003 Sheraton Hawai'i Bowl on Dec. 25, 2003.... The 1980-81 Cougar teams competed at the 1980 Sun and 1981 Garden State Bowls.
** The Cougars' 98-yard drive that was capped at the 10:16 mark of the second quarter by junior quarterback Kevin Kolb's 4-yard touchdown run was a season long... It topped the Cougars' 91-yard drive on the last drive of the second quarter at UTEP on Sept. 16.
** With Saturday's win, the Cougars improved to 115-96-4 (.544) all-time in games played during the month of November.
** With his 10-yard pass to Kendal Briles around the 3:05 mark of the second quarter, junior quarterback Kevin Kolb became the school record holder in total offense, topping David Klingler who racked up 9,327 yards in 1989-91... Kolb finished the game with 297 yards of total offense (75 rushing, 222 passing) and has posted 9,530 yards of total offense during his career.
** With 25 pass attempts, junior quarterback Kevin Kolb moved past Andre Ware (1,074 attempts, 1987-89) into fourth place in UH career history with 1,089 pass attempts... Up next in the UH records book is Chuck Clements, who threw 1,192 passes from 1993-96.
** With his 4-yard touchdown run in the second quarter, junior quarterback Kevin Kolb moved into a tie for first place with Lionel Wilson (1981-83) in UH career history with 16 rushing touchdowns as a quarterback.
** With 38 plays (13 rushing, 25 passing), junior quarterback Kevin Kolb moved past David Klingler (1,432, 1988-91) into second place in UH career history with 1,442 plays... Up next in the UH records book is Jason McKinley, who competed on 1,533 plays from 1997-00
** With 76 rushing yards, senior running back Ryan Gilbert became only the 21st player in school history to rush for more than 1,000 yards in a single season... Gilbert finished the night with 1,030 rushing yards in 2005 ... Current senior running back Anthony Evans was the last Cougar player to rush for quadruple digits, racking up 1,149 yards in 2003.
** With 125 receiving yards, junior wide receiver Vincent Marshall recorded his fourth 100-yard game of the 2005 season and the 12th of his career... The Cougars improved to 5-7 all-time in games in which Marshall records at least 100 receiving yards in a game.
** With 125 receiving yards, junior wide receiver Vincent Marshall broke out of a tie with Brandon Middleton (1999-03) and current UH secondary coach Jason Phillips (1987-88) for sole possession of third place in UH career history with 12 career 100-yard receiving games... Manny Hazard (1989-90) and Elmo Wright (1968-70) hold the UH career record with 14 career 100-yard receiving games.
** With his 80-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter, junior wide receiver Vincent Marshall recorded his team-leading sixth receiving touchdown of the 2005 season and the 18th of his career... He moved into a tie for fifth place with current UH secondary coach Jason Phillips, who hauled in 18 touchdown passes from 1987-88... Up next in the UH records book is Ken Hebert, who caught 22 touchdown passes from 1965-67.
** With two rushing touchdowns, senior running back Anthony Evans recorded his first multi-touchdown game since scoring twice against Army on Sept. 18, 2004.
** Junior linebacker Wade Koehl's interception at the 3:33 mark of the second quarter was his first of the 2005 season and the third of his career.
** Junior cornerback Willie Gaston's interception at the 0:26 mark of the second quarter was his first of the 2005 season and the fifth of his career.
** Freshman linebacker Cody Lubojasky's fumble recover at the 4:38 mark of the third quarter was the first of his career.
** With his 12-yard reception around the 2:10 mark of the first quarter, junior wide receiver Vincent Marshall caught a reception in his 35th consecutive game dating back to the season opener on Aug. 30, 2003, against Rice at Robertson Stadium.
** Consecutive Starts Streaks: Senior defensive end Kade Lane made his 47th consecutive start, dating back to Aug. 31, 2002, against Rice at Rice Stadium... Quarterback Kevin Kolb made his 35th consecutive start dating back to season opener on Aug. 30, 2003, against Rice at Robertson Stadium.
