HOUSTON - 2005 Houston Cougars Football Postgame Notes

** With Sunday's win, the Cougars improved to 114-95-4 (.545) all-time in games played during the month of November.
** With the win, the Cougars snapped a six-game losing streak against Southern Miss... It was UH's first win over Southern Miss since taking a 56-49 win in overtime on Nov. 9, 1996... Southern Miss leads the all-time series 6-3 (.667).
** The Cougars improved to 30-27-3 (.525) all-time during their annual Homecoming games and have now won two straight Homecoming games.
** With the win, the Cougars improved to 2-3 (.400) all-time in games played on Sunday... Today's game was the first played on a Sunday since the Cougars opened the season against Rice at Reliant Stadium on Sept. 5, 2004.
** The Cougars' 16-play drive that consumed 8:22 off the clock in the third quarter and was capped by Ben Bell's 30-yard field goal with 6:38 remaining in the period was a season long, in both plays and time of possession.
** With 144 rushing yards, senior running back Ryan Gilbert recorded his fourth 100-yard rushing day of the 2005 season and his career... His total topped his previous high of 134 rushing yards set against Tulsa on Oct. 1, 2005.The Cougars improved to 4-0 in games in which Gilbert rushes for at least 100 yards.
** With 144 rushing yards, senior running back Ryan Gilbert recorded the second-highest total by a UH back during the all-time series against Southern Miss... His total was second only to Antowain Smith's 231 rushing yards on Nov. 9, 1996.
** With 315 passing yards, junior quarterback Kevin Kolb moved past Andre Ware (8,131 yards, 1987-89) into third place in UH career history with 8,446 career passing yards... Up next in the UH records book is Jason McKinley, who passed for 8,694 yards from 1997-00.
** With 315 passing attempts, junior quarterback Kevin Kolb moved past the 1,000-attempt mark in his career and finished the game with 1,028 pass attempts during his career... He became only the fifth quarterback in school history to throw at least 1,000 passes during his career.
** With 315 passing yards, junior quarterback Kevin Kolb recorded the 11th 300-yard passing game of his career and his fifth 300-yard game of the 2005 season... It also was his second straight 300-yard passing game and his third in the last four games... The Cougars improved to 3-8 all-time in games in which Kolb passes for at least 300 yards.
** With 11 career 300-yard passing games, junior quarterback Kevin Kolb moved out of a tie with Andre Ware (1987-89) into sole possession of second place in UH career history... Up next in the UH records book is David Klingler, who posted 13 300-yard passing games from 1988-91.
** Junior wide receiver Vincent Marshall caught a reception in his 33rd consecutive game dating back to the season opener on Aug. 30, 2003, against Rice at Robertson Stadium.
** Junior quarterback Kevin Kolb's 83-yard touchdown to junior wide receiver Vincent Marshall around the 9-minute mark of the fourth quarter was a career-long for both players... It topped the 81-yard touchdown pass on which both players connected late in the fourth quarter during the Sheraton Hawai'I Bowl on Dec. 25, 2003.
** With two touchdowns, junior wide receiver Vincent Marshall moved into a tie with Marcus Grant (1989-91) for seventh place in UH career history with 16 receiving touchdowns... Up next in the UH records book is Orlando Iglesias who caught 17 touchdown passes from 1997-00.
** With 129 receiving yards, junior wide receiver Vincent Marshall posted the 11th 100-yard receiving game of his career and his third during the 2005 season... The Cougars improved to 4-7 all-time in games in which Marshall records at least 100 receiving yards.
** With 11 career 100-yard receiving games, junior wide receiver Vincent Marshall moved into a tie with Brandon Middleton (1999-03) and current UH secondary coach Jason Phillips (1987-88) for third place in UH career history... Up next in the UH records book is Manny Hazard (1990) and Elmo Wright (1968-70) who recorded 14 100-yard receiving games during their respective careers.
** With four receptions, sophomore wide receiver Jeron Harvey set a new personal single-game high... His total topped his previous high of two receptions set against Tulane (Oct. 8, 2005), vs. Memphis (Oct. 15, 2005), and at UCF (Nov. 5, 2005).
** With three receptions, senior tight end Blade Bassler tied his single-game high... His total equaled his previous best set at Tulsa on Oct. 1, 2005.
** With his 30-yard field goal at the 6:38 mark of the third quarter, freshman kicker Ben Bell recorded the third multi-field goal game of the 2005 season and his career... His two field goals equaled his single-game high set at UTEP (Sept. 16, 2005) and against Memphis (Oct. 15, 2005).
** Consecutive Starts Streaks: Senior defensive end Kade Lane made his 45th consecutive start, dating back to Aug. 31, 2002, against Rice at Rice Stadium... Quarterback Kevin Kolb made his 33rd consecutive start dating back to season opener on Aug. 30, 2003, against Rice at Robertson Stadium.
