LAFAYETTE, La. - 2005 Houston Cougars Football Postgame Notes
Houston Cougars (3-2, 2-1 C-USA) vs. Tulane Green Wave (2-2, 1-1 C-USA)
Saturday, October 8, 2005 * Cajun Field * Lafayette, La.
** With Saturday's win, the Cougars improved to 6-4 (.636) lead in the all-time series against Tulane... UH extended its winning streak against the Green Wave to three games.
** Cougars improved to 112-117-6 (.489) all-time in the month of October.
** The Cougars improved to 25-39 (.391) all-time in Conference USA games.... The Cougars improved to 71-61-1 (.538) all-time against current C-USA teams.
** With 440 yards of total offense, the Cougar offense recorded their 20th game with at least 400 yards of total offense under head coach Art Briles.
** With a touchdown at the 11-minute mark of the first quarter, the Cougars scored on their opening possession for the third time this season... It was the Cougars' second touchdown on their initial drive in 2005.
** With 130 rushing yards, senior running back Ryan Gilbert recorded the third 100-yard rushing game of his career and the 2005 season... It also was his second consecutive game with at least 100 yards.
** Senior running back Ryan Gilbert became the first player since senior running back Anthony Evans on Nov. 6-13, 2004 to rush for at least 100 yards in consecutive games.
** Senior running back Ryan Gilbert set a new personal best with three touchdowns scored, topping his previous best of two touchdowns against Sam Houston State (Sept. 10, 2005) and at Tulsa (Oct. 1, 2005).
** Senior running back Ryan Gilbert tied his personal best with two rushing touchdowns... His total equaled his best of two rushing scores against Sam Houston State (Sept. 10, 2005) and at Tulsa (Oct. 1, 2005).
** With a receiving touchdown and a rushing touchdown, running back Ryan Gilbert became the first player since wide receiver Vincent Marshall against TCU on Oct. 25, 2003, to record both rushing and receiving scores in the same game... Gilbert became the first Cougar running back to accomplish that feat since Chris Robertson at UAB on Oct. 12, 2002.
** With his 40-yard touchdown pass to Ryan Gilbert at the 11-minute mark of the first quarter, quarterback Kevin Kolb moved past Jason McKinley (46 TD passes, 1999-00) into sole possession of third place in UH career history with 47 career TD passes... Up next in the UH records book is Andre Ware, who threw 75 touchdown passes from 1987-89.
** With 192 passing yards, junior quarterback Kevin Kolb moved past Chuck Clements (7,112 yards, 1993-96) into fourth place in UH career history... Kolb finished the night with 7,213 career passing yards... Up next in the UH records book is Andre Ware, who threw for 8,202 yards from 1987-89.
** Junior wide receiver Vincent Marshall caught a reception in his 28th consecutive game dating back to the season opener on Aug. 30, 2003, against Rice at Robertson Stadium.
** Sophomore wide receiver Jaron Harvey's 42-yard reception around the 7:30 mark of the third quarter was the longest of his career... It easily topped his previous long of 14 yards at UTEP on Sept. 16, 2005.
** Freshman kicker Garrett LeFevre's PAT at the 7:38 mark of the fourth quarter was the first of his career.
** Consecutive Starts Streaks: Senior defensive end Kade Lane made his 41st consecutive start, dating back to Aug. 31, 2002, against Rice at Rice Stadium... Quarterback Kevin Kolb made his 29th consecutive start dating back to season opener on Aug. 30, 2003, against Rice at Robertson Stadium.
