HOUSTON - Tennis coach John Severance announced on Wednesday afternoon the hiring of Jo Keene as assistant coach effective immediately.
"I'm absolutely thrilled to be back at the University of Houston," Keene said. "I have fantastic memories of playing here and of being a Cougar."
"As a former player of mine she knows what type of philosophy I'm looking for in an assistant coach," Severance said. "Knowing what I'm looking for, she can compliment my personality on the tennis court."
Keene, a native of England, was a member of the Cougar tennis squad from 2000-02 after playing two seasons at McNeese State. At UH, she compiled a 25-7 mark over two seasons, including an 8-0 record in Conference USA action during the 2002 campaign.
Keene graduated from Houston in 2003 with a degree in sociology.
"Being a former Cougar is an added bonus," Severance added. "Not only has she been there, done that, she's been there, done that at the University of Houston. She brings a passion that you're only going to have if you're a former Cougar."
Houston has had two fall tournaments cancelled due to Hurricane Rita and will host the Cougar Fall Classic at Hoff Courts on Oct. 28-30.
"The team that has been put together is a good one," Keene said. "All eight players have got a lot of potential and are going to do some exciting things this season."
