HOUSTON - The University of Houston football team practiced under sunny skies on Wednesday afternoon for a little under two hours at the UH Athletics Complex.
"We're still working on the game plan in terms of being precise on everything," head coach Art Briles said. "We have a couple of more days to get everything polished up and ready to go."
The Cougars (2-2, 1-1 C-USA) are preparing to face off against the stingiest defense in C-USA and one of the top units in the nation. Tulane (2-1, 1-0 C-USA) tops C-USA allowing only 17.3 points per game and is second nationally yielding only 220.3 yards per contest.
"They have a great defense and have had one for a couple of years now," Briles said. "Those guys have grown up in the system, and it's going to be a great challenge for our offense."
The Green Wave has a trio of senior linebackers that have limited opponents to a paltry 73.7 yards per game on the ground and is fourth in the nation with 14 sacks through three games.
The C-USA contest against Tulane kicks off at 5pm Saturday at Cajun Field in Lafayette, La. The game was originally scheduled to be played at the Louisiana Superdome, but the destruction left in the wake of Hurricane Katrina forced the Green Wave to abandon New Orleans.
The game will air on ESPN 790 AM. Tom Franklin will handle play-by-play duties with Tony Fitzpatrick providing color analysis, while former All-Southwest Conference center Chuck Brown serves as the roving sideline reporter. The radio feed is also available to fans on UHCougars.com
In addition, the game will be televised live on the i Network (formerly known as PAX) on DirecTV channel 255, and Time Warner Channel 7 in the Houston area. Carter Blackburn will call the play-by-play action, while Ray Lucas will provide color analysis.
