Houston - The University of Houston wrapped up Thursday's practice with the "Cougar Bowl", a 30-minute inter-squad scrimmage between Houston's offensive and defensive reserve players.
"It's a great opportunity for the young guys who don't travel to get some playing experience and be a part of the game," Houston head coach Art Briles said. "If they don't play on Saturdays, all they get to do is work out. It is a chance to show us what they can do."
"We have focused on academics, personal improvement and strength this week," Briles added. "We have tried to use our time intelligently and that is what we want them to do is spend their free time wisely. They have a chance to catch up academically, increase their overall strength and improve their skills individually this week."
Briles and the Cougars return to their regular schedule next week as they prepare to play at UCF on November 5.
"We will start putting in our game plans next Tuesday," Briles said. "Then, we will prepare for UCF like we do each week for other opponents."
Houston will close out the regular season with three straight home games. The Cougars play host to Southern Miss on Sunday, November 13 at 4:00 p.m., SMU on November 19 at 5:00 p.m. and Rice on November 26 at 3:00 p.m.
The Southern Miss and SMU games were rescheduled following the local evacuations for Hurricane Rita.
Those fans wishing to attend either or both games should note the following ticket exchange policy.
Fans who purchased tickets for either the Southern Miss or SMU games may do one of the following: 1. Keep the current tickets, as they will be valid for the new rescheduled games. 2. Exchange your tickets for one of the remaining home football games. The homecoming game.
Fans, who purchased only Homecoming game tickets, and still want to attend the Homecoming weekend, MUST exchange their SMU tickets for tickets to the Southern Miss game before the game date. The SMU game tickets WILL NOT BE VALID for the Southern Miss game.
