Highlights as an athlete at UH:
In our last regular season series my senior year, we beat Texas in Houston, and made (the Longhorns) share the Southwest Conference title with Texas A&M. In that series, Greg Swindell was pitching against Mike Walker on Friday, Texas won 1-0. On Saturday, we swept a doubleheader, (5-3) and (4-2) and beat Swindell when he came back to pitch in the second game. (Editor's note: Jody Supak was the winning pitcher for Houston in the first game and Larry Coker was the winning pitcher in the second game.)
Where Is Basso Now? He is a minor league manager with Toronto Blue Jays organization. Mike will begin his 20th season in professional baseball this year and was the manager of the New Hampshire Fishercats, which won the 2004 Eastern League.
What was your greatest memory in Professional Baseball?
In 1998, I was a Class A manager in the San Diego Padres organization and served as a catching instructor for the Padres in spring training. As a result, I was able to go to the World Series.
Another highlight would be leading last year's team to the Eastern League Championship.
Are you currently involved with any sports or community activities?
I coach my son Brady's basketball team and will be conducting a little league coaching clinic for District 15. Mainly, I am being a dad and enjoying my time off before we go to spring training.
