Softball Concludes Fall Season

HOUSTON -- The University of Houston softball team finished the fall season going 3-2 at the Spring Klein College Classic last weekend.
The Cougars began the tournament storming past Texas Tech, 6-1. Brooke Johnson, Laura Durham and Brandi Clark all picked up a RBI apiece in the win.
Crystal Briscoe and Candi Kloecker teamed up to derail the Red Raider offense. Briscoe allowed only one run on four hits, while striking out six batters over five innings of work. Kloecker closed the door with authority punching out three hitters in the final two frames.
Houston continued its strong offense play exploding for a 9-1 thrashing of North Texas. Angel Shamblin went the distance for UH in the circle mowing down five hitters and surrendering only two hits.
Haley Valis fueled the Cougar attack going two-for-three with a double and 3 RBI, while Elaina Norstorm provided a three-for-three effort adding 2 RBI.
The Cougars ended day one of the tournament dropping a 4-3 decision to Oklahoma. OU came from behind knocking a game-winning home run off of relief pitcher Barbie Love in the seventh inning. Nordstrom, Shamblin and Katie Bush all registered RBI for Houston in the loss.
Day two opened with a 3-1 setback to New Mexico State, but Houston was able to rebound charging back to earn a 5-4 victory over Blinn College to conclude the tournament.
Love recovered from her start against OU, firing four strikeouts in a five-inning outing. Christa Raley and Durham led the offense going one-for-two finishing with a RBI.
The Cougars embark on the 2006 season hosting the Wilson/DeMarini Invitational on Feb. 10-12 at the Cougar Softball Stadium. UH will face off with Oregon, Florida, Texas A&M -- Corpus Christi and Kansas.
