Men Capture Leonard Hilton Memorial Championship

HOUSTON, Texas - Bolstered by first-place finishes in five events, the University of Houston captured the team title at the Leonard Hilton Memorial Invitational held in the Yeoman Field house, holding off the University of Texas, 123-108.
On the women's side, the Lady Cougars finished third behind Miami (Fla.) and Texas.
Sprinter Stanford Routt captured the 200 meters in a time of 21.31, while hurdler Andrew Carruthers took the title in the 60-meter hurdles clocking a 7.94. In the field events, Tristian Whitley was the Invitational high jump champion, while the pole vault title went to Scott Duckworth. The Cougars also captured the 4X400-meter relay and took fourth in the distance medley relay.
The Cougars finished two-three-four in the 60-meters, as Carey LaCour (6.77) held off Routt (6.77) and Preston Perry (6.78) and the tape. In the 400 meters Kolee Latson finished second with a clocking of 49.09, while third-place finishes went to Brandon Bray in the long jump and Vincent Marshall in the triple jump.
As for the women, Caresir Hamilton's second-place finish in the triple jump and Daneille Anaerud's runner-up pole vault performance were the top UH performances on the day. The Lady Cougars finished second, third (Crista Coppin) and sixth (Ashley Ligon) in the pole vault, and also went five-six (Tinisha Wesley and Allie Booker) in the shot put.
Alicia Cave's 8.52 in the 60-meter hurdles was good for third-place, and Krystal Ward and Nichole Brundage finished in a tie for fourth in the high jump. The UH 4X400-meter relay squad finished third, just a half second behind Texas and two one-hundreths of a tick off of Miami's second-place showing.
Both Cougar squads return to the track next weekend when the University of Houston plays host to the Houston Indoor Classic on January 28-29.
