HOUSTON - The University of Houston Baseball team will look to its glorious past and a promising future during the team's annual preseason banquet on Sat., Jan. 29 at the UH Hilton.
The banquet, which will be held in the Grand Ballroom of the UH Hilton (4800 Calhoun), begins at 6:30 p.m. with a reception and cash bar. Dinner and the program is scheduled to start around 7:30 p.m.
Members of the 2005 Cougar Baseball Team and coaching staff will be recognized. In addition, former Cougar great Chris Snyder will be honored as the program's Professional Baseball Player of the Year.
Also, the Rayner Noble All-Decade Team will be announced after two months of voting by Cougar fans. As of Friday afternoon, more than 800 ballots already had been received with more expected to pour in during the final two weeks.
Individual tickets are available for $45, and fans can sponsor a Cougar Baseball player for a similar cost. Various table reservations with seating for 10 people also are available. For more information, call the UH Baseball Office at 713-743-9396.
Business attire is requested. Seating is limited and reservations are guaranteed based on the order in which they are received, so fans should make plans for the banquet soon.
Fans can continue to vote for the Rayner Noble All-Decade Team until 5 p.m., Jan. 21. Ballots are available on the UH web site at www.UHCougars.com.
Once fans have completed their ballots, they can email them to jaconrad@mail.uh.edu or fax them to 713-743-9411. Ballots must be filled out completely to be counted.
The Cougars open the 2005 season on Feb. 11-13 at the Minute Maid Park College Classic. At that round-robin tournament, UH will meet No. 11 Baylor at 3:30 p.m., Feb. 11 and No. 23 Oklahoma State at 3:30 p.m., Feb. 12. The Cougars then close out the three-day event with a 6 p.m., showdown on Feb. 15 against No. 10 Texas A&M.
