HOUSTON - Only two practices are left after today's drills for the Cougar football team before they meet No. 2 Oklahoma in Norman, Okla. on Saturday at 6:00 p.m. on TBS.
The team is looking forward to the weekend and the opportunity of pitting their talent against one of the top teams in the country.
"Its exciting just to go play," said head coach Art Briles. "When you have a bad taste in your mouth you go look for some Listerine, our Listerine is another game and another opportunity."
In preparation for that next opportunity, today was a full padded Wednesday practice for the Cougars as they went through full-contact drills and their offensive/defensive schemes.
Briles and his coaching staff focused the practice on every phase of the game instead of focusing on one or two areas. "We are not where we need to be or where we are going to be," said Briles. "So everyday we go out is a chance to improve our blocking, tackling, catching, kicking, punting, protecting - everything we do."
Houston is looking to gain some momentum and quiet some of its critics in Saturday's game against the Sooners, describing the team as "refocused and ready to go to Norman and earn a little respect."
"We hope we haven't lost our confidence over one 60-minute game," said Briles referring to the season opening lose to Rice. "We feel good about ourselves and just need to make other people feel good about us. We feel like we know how we are and now we have got to go prove that we are a good football team and that we deserve respect."
