HOUSTON - The Conference USA season begins Friday night for the University of Houston volleyball team at the Athletics/Alumni Center with the Cougars hosting the Golden Eagles of Southern Miss.
The Cougars (1-11, 0-0) will be looking to pull the team back on track after dropping a record 11 straight matches since their win in the season opener against Maryland.
Southern Miss (3-7, 0-0) is also looking to get back into the win column after losing their last five matches, including a 3-0 loss to Alabama last week.
After winning every meeting between the two schools, Houston fell to the Golden Eagles last season in Hattiesburg but still leads the all-time series 12-1.
Last season the Cougars finished the regular-conference season with a 6-7 record and tied for 7th place but put on a strong push in the C-USA Tournament where they defeated top-seeded Cincinnati, advancing to the semi-final round.
Action gets underway in the Athletics/Alumni Center at 7:00 p.m. on Oct. 1 where admission is free, and then host Tulane on Saturday.
