HOUSTON, Texas - With their focus on the Rice Owls the University of Houston football team continued its preparation for the season opener against its crosstown rival with another workout on the UH practice fields. UH head coach Art Briles is pleased to see his team coming together. "We cut a little time off, so we were really bouncing around at a high tempo," said Briles. "That's thing we're after. What a great effort with great tempo and good results, and we have all three of those things. We just need to keep going the way we're going. "We're still waiting for someone to blow a whistle and someone to be in the stands. We're ready for a game." For the second straight day a stifling heat greeted the Cougars on the practice fields, with temperatures reaching in the high 90s as practice started. Still, Briles likes the way the Cougars have fought through these harsh conditions. "The thing we've stressed are being tough physically and mentally, and that is what we have to be if we're going to be a great football team. This is just a kind of test for us." Houston will take part in a light workout tomorrow afternoon with a scrimmage slated for the redshirts and squadmen. After a day off on Saturday, the Cougars will return to practice on Sunday with a walk through at Reliant Stadium. --- www.UHCougars.com ---
