MEMPHIS HEAD COACH DAVE ANDERSON
0
"We kept battling and got some runs late in the game. They're a very good offensive team so it was really important that we made sure to score some runs. We had some guys step up today and Jarrett Grube our all conference pitcher had an out standing game."
On the offensive output by the Tigers
"In my four years here, they (Southern Miss) has always been a good offensive team. No lead is too safe, especially in college baseball. You try to get as many runs as you can, especially late in the ball game. It also makes it a little easier to pitch. We just have to hang in there and hop we didn't use all our hits today."
MEMPHIS PITCHER JARRETT GRUBE
"The first inning is always a tough one to get out of. Once I got out of that I just tried not to give them the lead and our bats pretty much got me into cruise control today.
On his 10 strike outs
"I really didn't try to strike out anybody unless I really needed one in a key situation. I just tried to make good pitches and cause fly outs and ground balls
MEMPHIS OUTFIELDER JORDAN HART
On his five for five hitting performance with two home runs.
"It was just one of those days. I have to forget about today and come out tomorrow and do my best to do the same thing."
SOUTHERN MISS HEAD COACH CORKY PALMER
"They hit us early with some runs and we came back and got back in the game. Cliff (Russum) threw okay, hes still a little rusty but he gave us a great effort. We went with our best reliever and they hit him. That's the bottom line"
On Memphis pitcher Jarrett Grube
"Jarrett Grube is one of the best pitchers in this league, no question. I knew if gave him many runs we were going to have a problem."
On being in the losers' bracket
"We've got to hit. There was one point this season where we averaged about eight runs per game for about a month. We've got to do a better job of that."
SOUTHERN MISS SHORTSTOP MATT SHEPHERDM
"We know how capable we are of scoring runs and getting big hits, and right now we just aren't doing it. We've got to compete up at the plate and that's something we're not doing. You have to tip your hat to Grube, he did a great job and kept us off balance. We just have to get back into the swing of things."
SOUTHERN MISS PITCHER CLIFF RUSSUM
"I felt fine. The arm was okay, but I didn't have the usual pop in my fastball. You have to tip your hat to them, they battled with two strikes and made me throw a lot of pitches."
