HOUSTON - After playing more than 50 regular-season games, some of the best college baseball teams in the nation will invade Houston this weekend to compete in the 2004 Conference USA Tournament presented by Sterling Bank at Cougar Field.
The five-day tournament begins at 9 a.m., Tuesday and wraps up with the championship game at 1 p.m., Sunday in a game televised by the C-USA Television Network.
Hosting a postseason conference tournament for the first time in school history, the No. 5 Cougars will meet No. 4 TCU at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, in the final game of the day. Both the Cougars and the Horned Frogs tied at 19-11 in the final C-USA standings, but TCU earned the higher series by winning the regular-season series against UH on March 26-28 at Cougar Field.
All Cougar postseason games can be heard live on 88.3 FM KAXF or over the Internet at www.UHCougars.com with Nick Torina and Pat Cauley calling the action.
Fans also can follow live stats from all games at the C-USA Tournament at www.UHCougars.com by clicking on the appropriate link on the C-USA Tournament Central site.
No. 3 Southern Miss meets No. 6 Memphis at 9 a.m., Wednesday, in the tournament opener and will be followed at 12:30 p.m. with a game featuring No. 2 Tulane against No. 7 UAB. No. 1 East Carolina will square off against No. 8 Louisville at 4 p.m.
Tickets are still available for the C-USA Tournament, but fans should call the UH Ticket Office soon to hold their seats. All-session booklets are available for $50 for reserved seating and $40 for general admission.
