HOUSTON, Texas - University of Houston junior third baseman Kristen Glowacz (Katy, Texas) was named to the All-South Region Second Team for the second straight season. Last week Glowacz was picked to the Conference USA First Team for the second consecutive year.
Glowacz helped lead the Cougars to a runner-up position at the Conference USA Tournament last week and assisted UH in reaching the NCAA Regionals for the first time in school history. The Cougars are currently taking part in the Waco Regional, where they lost to Seton Hall yesterday and defeated Texas A&M-Corpus Christi earlier today to stay alive.
Prior to the postseason, Glowacz led the Cougars in all major hitting categories, leading the squad in batting average (.341), doubles (13), home runs (9), RBI (42) and slugging percentage (.598). In starting all 63 games for the Cougars, Glowacz has helped lead UH to a 39-24 overall record, the best in the history of the program.
The 2002 Conference USA Freshman of the Year, Glowacz also has stolen 13-of-15 bases and fielded .960 from the hot corner.
Glowacz is joined on the All-South Region Second Team squad by Southern Miss outfielder Auriel Jenkins. USF's Holly Groves was named to the Southeast Region first team, while her teammates Leigh Ann Ellis, Carmela Liwag and Kattrina Dowd were placed on the second team. Kate Manuse of East Carolina was also a Southeast Region second-team selection, while the DePaul tandem of Sarah Martz and Saskia Roberson were named to the All-Mideast Region First Team.
