HOUSTON, Texas - Former University of Houston running back Joffrey Reynolds is one of 19 former Conference USA players to appear on the opening day rosters of NFL Europe teams as the league gets ready to being its 12th season this weekend. Reynolds will be a member of the Rhein Fire.
Reynolds, who played for the St. Louis Rams last season, played four seasons for the Cougars (1999-2002) and finished his career with the school's fourth-best career rushing yards at 2,947. In 2002 Reynolds set a Conference USA single-season record with 1,545 yards on the ground and recorded eight 100-yard rushing games to establish another league mark.
He was named First Team, All-Conference USA and also picked up honorable mention All-America honors from CNNSI.com. Reynolds set a league and Houston record with 300 yards rushing against East Carolina.
Nine of C-USA's 11 schools are represented, with at least one player appearing on each of the six NFL Europe teams. East Carolina, Southern Miss and Tulane each had the most players on NFL Europe rosters, with three former standouts from each school earning a spot in the spring league. Cincinnati, Memphis, USF and UAB each placed two former players. Houston and TCU each have one player continuing his pro career in the league.
The Scottish Claymores have the most former Conference USA players with five, while the Amsterdam Admirals have four. The defending champion Frankfurt Galaxy feature three former C-USA standouts.
The NFL Europe regular season continues through June 6, with games appearing each week on FOX Sports and the NFL Network. World Bowl XI will be played on Saturday, June 12. For more information on NFL Europe, visit: www.nfleurope.com.
