HOUSTON, Texas - The annual rite of passage known as spring practice will officially come to a close tomorrow morning, when the University of Houston football team takes part in the Red-White Game at 11 am at John O'Quinn Field at Robertson Stadium. The controlled scrimmage is open to the public.
Cougar head coach Art Briles is pleased with his team's effort over the last month and anticipates a very competitive scrimmage in the morning.
"We?ve been quite pleased with the effort this spring," said the second-year head coach. "We feel that the entire team has been focused on becoming a better football team, so the end results have been quite pleasing.
"Now, it is spring and we don't have the entire squad out there (practicing), but I anticipate the scrimmage on Saturday to be quite competitive and fun to watch. We hope all of our fans come out and watch us tomorrow."
The scrimmage culminates the Cougars on-the-field workouts until early August when the entire squad---including the Class of 2004---arrive for fall practice. The Cougars open the 2004 season on September 4, when they face archrival Rice at Rice Stadium.
