After picking up just one hit through five innings, the Cougars used a five run five hit rally in the sixth inning to overcome a 4-1 deficit to take the series opener with the Blazers and improve to 26-16 on the season.
After Jamie Adams grounded into a fielders choice forcing out Kim Nesloney who started the inning with a single to left center, Houston picked up back to back singles by Kristen Glowacz and Jenilee Skender to load the bases. Arelis Ferreris reached on an error by UAB third baseman Nicole Whitlock, forcing in Adams, while keeping the bases loaded. Trailing 4-2, Davis put the Cougars in the lead with one swing, sending the ball over the left field fence as Blazer left fielder Chelsea McCall Crashed through the fence.
Houston was hitless though four innings before Brandi Clark hit a line drive which bounced off a diving Whitlock's glove. Despite being no hit, the Cougars scored a run in the fourth inning. After Glowacz walked and was sacrificed over by Skender and Ferreris, she came across putting Houston on the board on a passed ball.
The Cougars used three pitchers in the win, with Crystal Briscoe throwing four and one third innings of one hit ball while striking out seven Blazer batters. Briscoe improved to 7-7 on the season while Jamie Falco, who started the game, pitched two innings giving up three runs on three hits. Jenny Johnson pitched two thirds of an inning, giving up one run on one hit.
