HOUSTON - University of Houston tight end Stephen Cucci recently was granted an extension by the NCAA to participate in a sixth year of competition during the 2004 season.
Cucci, who sat out all but one game in 2003 with hamstring and hip injuries, was previously granted a hardship waiver for the 2003 season.
The 2003 campaign was not the first time that Cucci missed playing time due to injury. He missed the entire 2001 season after recovering from off-season surgery on both shoulders.
The Bradenton, Fla., native and 2002 All-Conference USA Second Team honoree has appeared in 35 games as a Cougar during his career, which began in 1999 after a stellar prep career at Southeast High School.
