Cougar tennis knocks off No. 75 Utah 5-0

HOUSTON - Behind solid sigles play, the University of Houston Tennis team swept No. 75 Utah 5-0 Saturday afternoon, picking up their first win over a top 100 opponent this season.
In singles play, Houston's Miranda Foley beat Sheri Esrock 6-3, 6-3 in to number one singles match while Biljana Dimovska defeated Whitney Eber 1-6, 6-3, 10-1 in the number two spot. At the number four spot, Yolandi Terblanche beat Jessica Watts 6-2, 6-1, Kami Miller downed Jenessa Jackson 6-3, 6-0 in the number five match up while Karine Urbine knocked off Rachel Alder 6-3, 6-1 in the number six spot. Diana Martin and Cinthia Saucedo were rained out in the number three matchup, the match was being led by Martin 1-0 and was tied 3-3 in the second set when the rain forced an end to the match.
Doubles were not played due to the rain.
"This was a huge win for us," UH tennis coach Jennifer Hyde said. "We have a big week coming up with Central Florida on Tuesday and conference opponent Louisville on Friday. It was great to get this one under our belts before we hit the court next week."
The Cougars will be in action again Tuesday morning at 11 a.m. when they host Central Florida at the John E. Hoff varsity courts at the University of Houston.
