HOUSTON - The University of Houston football team wrapped up the second week of spring practice with an inter squad scrimmage Wednesday afternoon at the UH practice Fields. The Cougars will take a week off for spring break before finishing the spring schedule with two more weeks of practice.
Cougar head coach Art Briles said the scrimmage went well, giving the coaching staff an opportunity to evaluate where the team is at this point.
"We went through a half practice and then had about a 50 minute scrimmage, it was very productive," Briles said. "We didn't have any injuries which was our main concern and we had some guys flying around making plays on both sides of the ball with great intensity and effort. We're pleased with the way it went, but we still have some growth in front of us.
As a whole, Briles said he is pleased with the way the first two weeks has gone, and hopes the two weeks following the break will get even better.
"I'm happy with where we've progressed," he said. "We're way further along than where we were last year at this time and I'm not sure we're not further along than where we were at the end of the season last year. We're progressing as a football team. Our guys are much stronger and quicker. I like the way we're headed and we just need to finish strong and be ready to go next fall."
