HOUSTON - The University of Houston softball team improved to 14-6 on the season Saturday night with a 4-1 win over the University of Virginia in their fist game of the day at the Hyatt Regency Cougar Classic at the Cougar Softball complex.
The Cougars broke a 1-1 tie in the fourth inning on a towering Jeanie Davis homerun over the center field fence. They picked up another run in the fourth when Michelle Keith stole home plate on a double steal with Lindsay Durham. The throw beat Keith to the plate, but a good slide knocked the ball lose from the catcher.
In the fifth inning Houston struck again, starting the inning with an Arelis Ferreris double to center field. Kristen Glowacz sharp hit to third base forced an errant throw to first base, which allowed Ferreris to score.
Senior Jamie Falco improved to 4-0 with the complete game win. The Cougars were playing their final game of the tournament against Villanova when this story was written.
